What a Nile cruise from Cairo costs

A Nile cruise from Cairo can mean one cheap hour under sail or a week on the river. Here is what each one buys, what the price leaves out, and where the bill grows after you book.

Two very different things are sold as a Nile cruise from Cairo. One is an evening on the river in the city: a dinner boat with a buffet and a show, or a felucca under sail. The other is the multi-day cruise between Luxor and Aswan, which starts with a flight south because the classic ships don't sail from Cairo.

The trips below are ranked by their from-prices on GetYourGuide in October 2026, which are always per person. Prices move with the date, so check the live price on each booking page. Extras such as temple tickets are priced in Egyptian pounds, and the pound has moved a lot against other currencies (exchange rate history).

The quick answer

An evening on the Nile in Cairo is the cheap option: the private felucca sail is the lowest price on this site, and a dinner cruise with a show or a private felucca dinner costs about the same as a mid-range restaurant meal. A real cruise from Cairo means the 4-day package with flights or the 8-day tour, and both cost far more. Every price is per person. On the 4-day package, budget extra for temple tickets, plus tips and drinks.

How much does a Nile cruise from Cairo cost?

The private felucca sail is the cheapest trip, and the 8-day tour with four nights on a ship is the most expensive. The evening dinner boats sit close together near the bottom.

Here is every trip on this site, cheapest first. The last column is the one people skip and later regret: the trip length includes the drive across Cairo, so it tells you little about the river.

How much does a Nile cruise cost in Egypt overall?

A standard 3 or 4-night cruise between Luxor and Aswan, packaged with flights from Cairo, is the entry level. Luxury ships and dahabiyas cost two to three times as much.

The multi-day cruise sails between Luxor and Aswan, 3 nights downstream or 4 upstream (Rickshaw Travel). The 4-day package wraps one of those cruises in return flights, a guide and a sunrise balloon. The 8-day tour adds three nights in a Cairo hotel, the pyramids and every entrance fee, and costs more as a result.

At the top end, prices climb fast. Abercrombie & Kent's new Nile Seray, launched in October 2026 with 32 suites, sits at the luxury end, sold per person for a four-night sailing (TravelPulse). The Nour el Nil dahabiyas, small sailing boats with 10 to 12 cabins, list nightly rates at the upper end of the market on i-escape. The Oberoi ships publish no rates at all: you ask for a quote. The best Nile cruise guide goes through them ship by ship.

What is the cheapest Nile River cruise?

In Cairo, the private felucca sail, the lowest price on this site. For a multi-day cruise, the 4-day package from Cairo, with flights included.

The private felucca is real value, as long as you read the small print: the listing runs 2 hours, but only one of them is on the water. The rest is the private car from your hotel and back. If there's no wind, a motorboat may stand in at no extra charge. For one hour on the river at sunset with your own boat, it is still the best deal in Cairo.

For more time afloat, the felucca and koshary trip costs a little more and adds a bowl of koshary, Cairo's lentil, rice and pasta classic, at a local restaurant. One guest summed it up: "Quiet trip on the river, great view, peaceful and comfortable!"

Is a cruise price for 2 people?

No. Every price here is per person, including the private boats, where the boat is yours but each guest pays.

This trips people up on the felucca listings. A couple pays twice the listed price for a private felucca, and a family of four pays four times it. The same applies to the multi-day packages: the price shown is for one person sharing a cabin, so a couple pays double.

Travelling alone on a package? The Nice Tours listings say a single room in a group means a separate booking per person. Ask about the single supplement before you pay, because a cabin for one costs more on almost every ship.

What is not included in a Nile cruise package?

On the 4-day package: entrance tickets, all drinks including water, and tips. The 8-day tour includes the tickets but not drinks, tips or the balloon.

Temple tickets are the biggest extra on the 4-day cruise. Each site on its itinerary needs its own foreign adult ticket, on the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities lists reported in 2026 (Luxor, August 2026; Aswan sites). Here is who pays for which ticket on each package:

Add the Unfinished Obelisk and the High Dam on day one, and the tickets add up to a real sum across the itinerary, so check the current foreign prices before you compare the two packages. Drinks are the second extra: the 4-day listing excludes all drinks, even water. On the 8-day tour, tickets are covered, and the Luxor balloon is the add-on, charged per person on top according to the listing.

How much should you tip on a Nile cruise?

Plan on a daily tip per person for the crew, plus a smaller daily tip for your Egyptologist guide. A Cairo operator publishes current guideline amounts.

A Cairo tour operator set out guideline amounts in June 2026 (Egypt Tours Plus), with the biggest share of the crew tip for your cabin steward, a smaller one for the dining room and a little at the bar. Clean, untorn notes work best; torn notes may be refused. On a 3-night cruise, the crew tips per person come to roughly the cost of a good dinner out, before the guide.

On a Cairo dinner boat, tips are not part of the price either: the Opal listing names gratuities as not included. A small tip for the waiter at the end of the night is normal. On a private felucca, tips are optional, and a small one for the captain is a kind gesture.

Do dinner cruises in Cairo charge extra for drinks and pickup?

Often, yes. The Opal cruise includes two bottles of water per booking and sells pickup as an add-on; the classic dinner cruise has pickup in the price.

Read each listing for three things. Drinks: the Opal cruise includes 2 bottles of water per booking, and other drinks are your own bill. The private felucca dinner includes unlimited hot and cold soft drinks, which makes its price look better. Pickup: the dinner cruise with hotel pickup collects you in the price; the Opal pickup must be selected in advance. The show: both big boats include the tanoura and belly dance, but the Opal listing says the entertainment may vary by day.

A Cairo taxi home at 11 p.m. is a real cost if pickup isn't included. Use Uber or Careem for a fixed fare, and the cheaper ticket may still win.

Is a Nile cruise really worth it?

Yes, both kinds, if you know which one you are buying. A Cairo evening is cheap fun; the Luxor to Aswan cruise is the best way to see Upper Egypt's temples.

The evening boat is worth it for what it is: two hours, a buffet, a show and the city lit up around you, for the price of a mid-range dinner. It is not a sightseeing trip, and you won't see the pyramids from it. Guests get what they paid for. As one put it: "Fantastic experience for our last night in Cairo."

The multi-day cruise is worth it because it solves logistics. Your hotel moves with you between Kom Ombo, Edfu and Luxor, and meals are covered. Skip the 4-day package if you hate early starts: Abu Simbel means leaving the ship at about 4 a.m. for a drive of roughly four hours each way. For a slower trip, look at the Cairo to Luxor options.
